Most
people want to get into shape, but it seems that getting into shape
requires a whole lot of fitness equipment. The problem with this is
that fitness
equipment can be very expensive, and not all of us can
afford to purchase it.
Similarly, not buying fitness equipment and joining a gym, instead,
can be very expensive, too. In fact, continually using the fitness
equipment at a gym can be more expensive in the long run than buying
your own fitness equipment.
Fortunately, not all fitness equipment is expensive. Here are some
ideas as to what sort of fitness equipment to buy if you need to save
money:
• Running/walking shoes. Alright, so running or walking shoes
can actually be relatively expensive – a good pair can cost
between $50-150 – but once you have them, it is totally free
to walk out to the park or to jog around the track.
• Jump rope. It is amazing how exhausting it can be to jump
rope. Of course, the jump rope is not just an exhausting piece of
fitness equipment, it can also be very effective and quite fun. You
can get a full body workout when using a jump rope. A weighted jump
rope will build up the strength in your arms even more. By bringing
your knees to your chest as you jump or adding a twist or a kick,
you can even strengthen your torso.
• Stairs. Instead of buying a stair stepper machine, try running
up and down the stairs at a stadium. Or, instead, you can just us
a single step – jump up on the step and then down. You could
even incorporate a stepping stool into your workout.
• Canned food. Dumbbells are, oftentimes, one of the least expensive
forms of fitness equipment that you can purchase. Nonetheless, why
buy any when you can use basic household goods, instead? Use a couple
of jars of spaghetti sauce to do some curls, a milk jug for tricep
extensions, and some canned beans for a chest press. Just make sure
you get a good grip on these pieces of “fitness equipment”
– they can be slippery, and you don’t want a workout that
ends in a mess of tomato sauce!
• A towel. A towel can be used to complete many stretches. Hold
a towel with both hands and place your foot in the middle of it and
slowly kick out. Reach behind your head with one hand from a above
with towel in hand, and bring up your other hand from below to grab
the towel and stretch and pull.
• Music. Turn on some music and start dancing! It is a fun and
effective form of exercise.
• Cleaning supplies. Why not get clean floors, spotless windows,
and dust-free surfaces while also building up strength in your arms
and legs?
• Bicycle. If you already have a bike, get on it and ride it
to work and to run errands instead of driving your car. If you don’t
have a bike, walk!
As you can see, fitness equipment does not consist of only treadmills
and weight machines and other expensive pieces of fitness equipment.
If you just look around, you will find many other things that can
be used as fitness equipment as well, items that cost very little.
