Exercise equipment

Exercise equipmentThere are so many different types of exercise equipment out there in the world, it can be very difficult to decide which type you should be using or which type you should buy. This article will give you a quick rundown on some of the main types of exercise equipment.

You can essentially divide exercise equipment into three main types of equipment – cardio, strength, and stretching. For a balanced exercise regime, you must incorporate both cardio and strength, as well as stretching. Of course, to do so, you may not need exercise equipment, but exercise equipment can help.

Cardio Exercise Equipment:

Cardio exercise equipment is the sort of equipment that is going to get your heart rate up, the type that makes you sweat. Cardio exercise equipment is going to help you increase your heart health and to burn fat. Of course, if truth be told, your cardio workouts will be more effective if you include some strength training in your regime – training with weights will help you maintain the results of cardio and also help you build muscular strength (and more defined muscles!)

Some examples of cardio exercise equipment include:
• treadmills
• elliptical trainers
• rowing machines
• stair climbers
• exercise bikes

Strength Exercise Equipment:

Strength training is also extremely important, and it goes hand in hand with cardio workouts. Unfortunately, some people skip strength training in favor of the cardio workouts because they are interested only in burning fat.

There are two main types of strength exercise equipment:
• free weights – this includes dumbbells and barbells. Many people like using free weights because there are so many exercises that can be done with them, they are relatively in expensive, and you have a free range of motion.
• weight machines – weight machines tend to be more expensive than the other type of strength exercise equipment, but they can be very effective at working particular muscular groups. Also, most weight machines train your muscles to do lifts and presses, etc. correctly, lowering the chance of injury.

Stretching Exercise Equipment

Most stretching exercise equipment that people use today is related to yoga or pilates. Examples of stretching exercise equipment include balance balls and yoga mats. Other forms of stretching exercise equipment include basic elastic bands and even household items like towels.

Properly stretching your muscles after warming up can decrease your chances of injury while working out. Also, you are sure to find that your favorite sport is so much more fun when you have a proper range of motion because you stretched before playing, using your stretching exercise equipment.
