Benefits of Recumbent Exercise Bikes
There are many benefits of recumbent exercise bikes. They provide a good cardiovascular workout in what some find to be a more comfortable cycling position than upright or spin-style bikes. The following is an overview of the benefits of recumbent bikes as compared to other types of exercise bikes, as well as other types of cardio exercise equipment.
- They come equipped with a large, bucket-style seat. This seat can be so much more comfortable than the hard and tiny seats that come attached to spinning bikes and upright exercise bikes. Because the seat is larger, it is more comfortable for larger, overweight people, as well as others who find it difficult to sit on small bike seats. For those who have not recently been on a bike, sitting on a small seat for an extended period of time can leave the glutes feeling somewhat sore the next day. This type of effect tends to happen less often with recumbent bikes.
- They are much lower impact than treadmills. Think of how much impact knees and other joints take from pounding on a treadmill! A recumbent bike is a great way to take the strain off of joints.
- The impact on joints of a recumbent bike is even lower than that of a stationary bike. This is because your feet are more at the same level with your body rather than lower.
- They provide a great cardio workout while also strengthening the lower body, including thighs, glutes, and calves.
- Seat positions can be adjusted. Moving the seat closer to the pedals, provides a workout for the lower abs!
- Both men and women can easily use recumbent bikes.
- They are great for people of all fitness levels and ages, from teens to adults to seniors.
- For an extreme workout, you can often set a course on your recumbent bike that includes increased resistance or multiple hills.
- If you want an upper body workout, too, you need only to bring in the use of free weights. Because you are so much more balanced when sitting on a recumbent bike as compared to a stationary bike, you can even do bicep curls while pedaling.
- It is easy to watch TV or look out the window or even look at the pictures in a magazine while using a recumbent bike. And the more entertained you are, the more you can take your mind off of your workout, and the longer you will be able to work out.
These are just some of the many benefits of recumbent exercise bikes. To find out more, you are going to have to try one of these bikes out! Do not be fooled by the slightly strange appearance of recumbents. They are so comfortable that they are starting to pop up as road bikes, too. At American Fitness, we have a full selection of recumbent exercise bikes to choose from. Browse our store or give us a call to get into one of these new bikes today!
